Governor Rick Scott has announced the reappointment of Broward County Sheriff, Scott J. Israel, to the Florida Violent Crime and Drug Control Council.
Scott J. Israel is reappointed for a term of two years beginning July 1, 2013, and ending June 30, 2015. The Florida Violent Crime Council was created in 1993 to financially assist local law enforcement agencies in extraordinary violent crime cases.
After Florida’s crime trend slightly shifted from violent crime to drug crimes, the 2001 Legislative Session decides to include funding for drug investigations and rename it the Violent Crime and Drug Control Council.
The Council now has the ability to provide supplemental funding to local and state law enforcement agencies for activities related to violent crime, major drug and money laundering investigations, victim/witness protection and relocation efforts.
The Council is composed of 14 people's membership to advocate the FDLE Executive Director (Commissioner) and make suggestions on the development and implementation of startups to combat drugs and crimes, trafficking, and money laundering.
